Arborscience is an independent consulting firm specializing in tree diagnosis, risk assessment, tree inventory and mapping, tree-protection plans, appraisals, and real estate inspections.
Service Areas
We cover the whole Bay Area, including Marin, Napa, Sonoma, the East Bay, and San Francisco.
We are a family-owned business consisting of a father daughter team of consulting arborists. Sadie runs the Napa office, and Kent runs the Marin office.
Sadie Julin has worked full-time as an arborist since 2021. Prior to that, she worked as a wildlife biologist in Portland, Oregon. She earned her B.S. from Oregon State University, is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist (WE-14171A), and is an ISA Qualified Tree Risk Assessor.
Dr. Kent Julin is the founder of Arborscience. He has more than 40 years of experience in forest management, environmental permitting, and tree safety. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from the University of Washington in Seattle, his B.S. degree from Humboldt State University, is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist (WE-8733A), an ISA Qualified Tree Risk Assessor, and a California Registered Professional Forester (2648).
All inspections and assessments include the preparation of an arborist report.
We use a variety of diagnostic techniques to identify the root cause behind a decline in health, whether the culprit is pests, parasites, diseases, or environmental factors, and provide recommendations for treatment or management.
All trees pose risk – you should be informed about the level of risk your trees may pose, and how to mitigate that risk. We are certified in tree-risk assessment and provide assessments and recommendations.
We are experienced in conducting pre-sale inspections for buyers and sellers.
Pre-sale inspections can identify hazard trees for seller before listing to expedite a sale, or identify hazard trees for the buyer to identify liabilities and enable estimating costs for repair.
Trees can add great value to a property - we can prepare tree appraisals in accordance with the Guide for Plant Appraisal (10th edition, 2019), authored by the Council of Tree & Landscape Appraisers (CTLA).
Do you own or manage a lot of trees? We conduct tree inventories and prepare maps for a variety of clients, including homeowner's associations, commercial properties, parks, and schools.
Planning a construction project, major remodel, or garden redesign around existing trees? Does your city require a tree-protection plan as part of the building permit process? Let us help you preserve the health of your trees and navigate the permit process.
